It was a cold and wet St. Patrick’s Day in Ballyduff however the bad weather did not dampen the spirits of our pupils who represented our school in the parade. ‘Proud to be Irish’ was our theme this year and we all marched proudly to the beautiful music played by our school band. Thank you to Conor Duignan, Sandra Carey, Tracy Moriarty, James Daly and John Enright who carried our school banner. Many thanks to William Quinlan for transporting the Junior Infants in his truck and to Ciara Moriarty and Siobhán Enright who decorated it. Your help was very much appreciated.

We were delighted to get a facilitator from SEAI to come to our school for a day on Wednesday 22nd March. She engaged Junior Infants to Second Class in Energy Workshops. The children met Guzzler the energy Icon and through him they learned how to save electricity, how electricity is made, how solar panels work and that we get energy from food. It proved to be very enjoyable and beneficial.
Energy workshops will be scheduled for 3rd to 6th class late May or early June.

This year World Book Day lasted a full week! Each child received a book voucher for €1.50 to put towards the purchase of a book of their choice or to exchange for a specially written book for World Book Day at local Bookshops. The children in each classroom were busy reading, discussing and enjoying a variety of books and also took part in book quizzes. Our older pupils read library books to our younger pupils. This was lovely experience and was enjoyed by both young and old. Thanks a million to our senior pupils who read so brilliantly and for making it such a memorable occasion for our younger children!
The major event for the week was the Poster Competition. Junior and Senior Infants drew and coloured their favourite character. First and Second drew their own book covers and Third to Sixth classes designed posters to encourage reading.
Each child got involved and the results were amazing. Judges picked four winners from each class and the winning posters are on display along the corridor. The winners are as follows:
Infants: Ruby Boyle, Conor O’ Sullivan, Packie Kirby, Fiadh Houlihan
Senior Infants: Billy Roberts, Seán Barron, Megan O’ Carroll, Lexi Rochford
First class: Julia Rzymska, Emily Fealy, Seán Gibbons, Odhrán McDermottroe
Second class: Holly Boyle, Marion Daly, Scott Sheehan, Cillian Mulcahy
Third class: Jake Segal, Aimee O’ Carroll, Kate Fealy, Sarah Carroll
Fourth class: Adam Lynch, Ava O’ Leary, Emer Enright, Callum Carey Sheehy
Fifth class: Brídín Purcell, Caoimhe Flavin, Kacey Dineen, Megan O’ Sullivan
Sixth class: Aodhán Curley, Sarah O’ Sullivan, Donna Kiely, Lauren McGrath
