Congratulations to Sean Slattery, 6th class, who gallantly represented Sliabh a’ Mhadra in the 60 centimetre Interschools Show Jumping competition held in the Clonshire Equestrian Centre, Adare on the 1st November. Sean came 4th in the competition and was only seconds behind the first place rider. A super achievement and a first for our school. Well done Sean!

Many thanks to Ms. Spellman for organising a super Maths week for us. Today all classes got to visit the library where a huge variety of maths-based activities could be enjoyed by all classes. Well done to our 6th class pupils and Mrs. Goulding for manning the various maths stations and ensuring that it was an educational and fun experience for all.

Our theme for this fortnight in Aistear is Hallowe’en. Junior and Senior Infants used Julia Donaldson’s book ‘Room on the Broom’ as a stimulus for our Aistear stations. We donned witch and wizard hats and transformed our playhouse into a haunted house. We painted a scene of the witch on her broom.  Mrs. Pierse gave us a STEM challenge to design and make a new broom for the witch and her friends using Lego as part of Maths Week. We experimented with light and shadows using torches. We used play dough to make ingredients for potions.
