Team Hope representatives arrived in the school today to collect our Christmas boxes. We handed over 141 boxes which is remarkable! The boxes will shortly be on their way to needy children in foreign lands, just in time for Christmas. Well done everyone!

Today we had a special visit from Bishop of Kerry, Ray Browne. He was accompanied by Fr. Brendan. They visited each classroom and chatted and prayed with the children.

There was great excitement around the school today with everyone getting into the spirit of Hallowe’en! Well done to everyone for supporting ‘Trick or Treat for Temple Street’ – a truly worthy cause.

This week we celebrated maths week! There was a huge variety of maths-based activities to be enjoyed in all classes. Many thanks to Ms. Spellman, Mr. O’Connor and the 6th class pupils who set up and manned maths stations in the library. Great fun was had by all.

We had a lovely gathering in school to celebrate the retirement of our much loved Mrs. O’ Carroll. Fr. Brendan celebrated mass in thanksgiving for her wonderful service to Sliabh a’ Mhadra over the past 22 years and our choir and musicians added beautifully to the mass. It was lovely to have many of her family and friends present. The celebrations continued on Friday night with a huge gathering in the Hopper Inn.
Mrs. O’ Carroll was a very diligent teacher who always had the best interest of the child at heart. She was particularly interested in Environmental Awareness, which resulted in the school being awarded several Green Flags. She developed a fantastic Library in the school and was constantly devising schemes to support the interested reader and to entice the reluctant reader. Possessing a holistic vision of Education, she endeavoured to develop the whole person whether it was through art, crafts, nature, music or sport.
She was always upbeat and brought great positivity and warmth to our school. We thank her for her wonderful contribution to Sliabh a’ Mhadra and we wish her a long and happy retirement.

We had great pleasure in welcoming Captain Mikey Boyle, members of the victorious Ballyduff Senior hurling team and their management to the school with the Neilus Flynn cup. The County Senior Hurling Championship Final replay against Lixnaw was a thrilling match from start to finish and was a historic twenty fifth title for Ballyduff. We are proud to say that almost half of the panel are past pupils of Sliabh a’ Mhadra.
It was a very special day for some of our pupils whose dads are on the team…..
Ellie and Freya Boyle (Aidan Boyle), Evan Boyle (Liam Boyle), Megan O’ Carroll (Stephen O’ Carroll), Jack and Lorcan Enright (Pa Enright).
We wish the team the very best of luck in their Munster Championship campaign.
